Welcome to Metallographic Microscopes website store where you have came to the right place to find high quality metallurgical microscopy equipment. A metallographic microscope is often called a metallurgical microscope because it is commonly used for metallurgy labs for examination, inspection and study of metal grain structures. The metal surface needs to be polished to give the best quality image of the specimen under high power magnification. Typical magnifications may be from 40x up to 1000x. The 100x objective will be an oil immersion requiring a drop of immersion fluid between the objective lens and the surface of the metal to be examined. The specimen doesn’t have to be metal, only opaque and polished with a flat surface.

For example, this type of equipment is also used for inspection of silicon semiconductor wafers. Often microscopists using metallographic microscopes will have the need for taking measurements. We can provide measuring reticles in the eyepieces as well as stage micrometers with precisely measured markings for calibrating the reticle markings in the eyepieces. Metallographic microscopes come as both inverted as well as upright versions. The inverted model has the objectives facing upward and a large open stage for placement of the metal sample to be inspected. With the objectives being inverted and facing up, the specimen is examined from the bottom.

This type of inverted microscope is useful when the specimen is of a size (height) that would not fit under a normal upright metallographic microscope. The upright version is best for small samples. Some versions may have large stages and some have smaller stages. The large stages are generally best for large semiconductor silicon wafer inspection. The size of the specimen must be taken into consideration before purchase of a metallographic microscope. These types of microscopes for metallurgy are more sophisticated, and it is highly recommended that persons interested contact us for a close examination of the application so we can make appropriate recommendations.
